Spring Flooring Checklist for East Texas Homeowners
Why Spring Is the Best Window
East Texas humidity doesn't stay mild for long. By June the air is thick, by July it's relentless. Spring — March through May — is the window when moisture conditions are moderate, wood acclimation is faster, adhesives perform better, and the floor has the best chance to settle and stabilize before the humidity swings of summer arrive.
If you've been thinking about new floors, this is the time to act. Here's the checklist.
1. Assess What You Have
Walk every room that might be getting new floors. Look for soft spots, squeaks, and visible damage to the subfloor. Check corners and areas near exterior walls and plumbing fixtures for signs of moisture. Note anything unusual — these are the items that will affect your installation plan and your budget.
If you're not sure what you're looking at, that's what a free estimate is for. We'll walk the floor with you and document what we find.
2. Make the Material Decision
Spring is the right time to start comparing hardwood, LVP, and tile for your specific home, not the week before your installation date. Material lead times vary — some products are in stock locally, some take two to three weeks to arrive. Building your timeline around the material, not the other way around, prevents the most common scheduling frustrations.
For hardwood and engineered hardwood: factor in 5–7 days of acclimation time after delivery before installation can begin.
3. Plan the Sequence
If you're doing multiple rooms or multiple floor types, the sequence matters. Tile typically goes first if it's going in a bathroom adjacent to a room getting hardwood. LVP and hardwood should be completed before baseboard reinstallation. Painting should be done before floors are installed, touch-up painting after.
Getting this sequence right prevents unnecessary scheduling conflicts and protects finished surfaces.
4. Clear the Space
The cleaner the space, the faster the installation. We handle furniture moving, but the more personal items, area rugs, and light furniture you clear ahead of time, the smoother the first day goes.
5. Book Early
Spring is our busiest season. Booking 3–4 weeks out gives you the best access to the schedule and the best pick of installation windows. Call Kevin at (318) 250-4948 — we serve Tyler, Longview, Marshall, Shreveport, Bossier City, and all of East Texas and northwest Louisiana.
