Before & After: A Bossier City Kitchen Gets Waterproof LVP

Before: A Kitchen That Had Seen Better Days

The homeowners in Bossier City had been living with the same vinyl flooring since they moved in — scuffed at the transitions, stained near the sink, and noticeably soft in one corner near the refrigerator. They wanted something durable enough for two dogs and a busy family, and waterproof enough to handle whatever life throws at a kitchen floor.

LVP was the right call. Here's how the project came together.

Step One: Subfloor Inspection and Moisture Testing

Before we touched the old floor, we walked the kitchen carefully — checking for soft spots, bounce, and squeaks. The soft corner near the refrigerator confirmed what we suspected: a slow drip had been wicking moisture into the subfloor for a while. We pulled up the old vinyl, found the affected area, and replaced the compromised section of subfloor before anything else happened.

Then we moisture-tested. In Bossier City and throughout northwest Louisiana, this step is non-negotiable. The remaining subfloor tested clean, so we moved to leveling.

Step Two: Leveling and Prep

Years of use had left low spots and a few high points around old floor fasteners. We used floor leveling compound to bring the surface within tolerance — no more than 3/16" variation over a 10-foot span, which is what most LVP manufacturers require to keep the warranty valid.

This is the step most contractors skip or rush. If the subfloor isn't flat, floating LVP will flex and click at the joints over time. We don't leave that problem for the homeowner to discover later.

Step Three: Layout Planning

We planned the layout before installation began — accounting for the kitchen island, the transition into the adjacent dining room, and the doorway into the laundry. The goal was a floor that flows naturally through the space without awkward slivers at the edges or misaligned transitions.

The homeowners chose a mid-tone oak-look LVP with a realistic wire-brushed texture — 9" wide planks that make the kitchen feel larger than it is.

The Result

Two days from start to finish. The soft corner is gone. The transitions are tight. The kitchen looks like a different room.

The homeowners chose this product partly for the dogs — and the scratch-resistant wear layer has already been tested. It's holding up exactly as expected.
