Before & After: Minden, LA Home Gets Engineered Hardwood Throughout

Webster Parish and the Humidity Factor

Minden sits in Webster Parish — far enough north to get cool winters, humid enough in summer to make flooring decisions matter. The homeowners here had carpet throughout the main living areas and had been planning a hardwood upgrade for two years. They wanted something that would look like real wood, perform in Louisiana's climate, and last.

Engineered hardwood was the right answer.

Why Engineered Over Solid Here

The home sits on a slab foundation — common in northwest Louisiana. Solid hardwood on slab is manageable with the right moisture mitigation, but it requires more vigilance over the long term. Engineered hardwood's cross-ply construction makes it significantly more stable in response to the humidity swings this climate produces.

It's also a real wood product — not vinyl, not laminate. The top layer is genuine hardwood veneer, finished just like solid wood, with a grain and warmth that LVP can approximate but not replicate.

The Install

Slab moisture testing came back clean. We let the engineered hardwood acclimate in the home for five days — checking moisture content daily and comparing it to the slab reading. When they matched within acceptable tolerance, we began.

The owners chose a 5" white oak in a natural finish — no stain, just a clear matte sealer that lets the wood's own character come forward. Installed as a floating floor over the slab with a proper vapor retarder.

Three days from start to finish. The result is a home that finally feels the way it was supposed to.
